Regardless, there is one thing a clever phone just has to offer & that’s getting through a full day or 2 without having to recharge the battery. This is an area where all the android phones struggling a bit. I often finish up having to give it some more juice in the coursework of the afternoon or early evening with the default factory settings. That’s fine for a laptop computer but not acceptable for a clever phone.
It is simple to say that Iam a satisfied owner of the Samsung Galaxy 551 since a couple of weeks. Overall, the clever phone is great & being able to run apps & processes in background gives it a clear edge over the iPhone. On the other hand, there are several areas where the Apple experience is just a lot smoother. Without going in to details I hope the rumoured couple of Android updates still this year will help ease these early misses.
1) Turn off the Always-On mobile information connection.
To solve this I have been fiddling with the settings some time to maximize the battery life & below is a short summary of how I have managed to get through a heavy usage day without having to recharge the phone. One of the not so secret ingredients to a long battery life is to minimize active network connections and that’s also where I focus my tweaking work below.
2) Disable Wireless network usage for positioning purposes
On the Home screen, select Menu => Settings => Wireless controls => Mobile network settings & de-select Enable always-on mobile data. This tweak probably has the largest impact on battery life.
3) Turn off Background data usage (but not in case you use Google services!)
This can be disabled by Menu => Settings => Location => Use wireless networks. This will turn off the anonymous (?) Google location information collection that makes use of the wireless information connection often. I still keep the GPS tick box checked as it is not an always-on configuration. Any app that will need a location will turn on the GPS separately. note that turning off wireless network usage for location purposes will slow down the GPS positioning fix when needed but that’s a trade off Iâm ready to do.
4) Always keep Wi-Fi off when not in use
This checkbox is hidden behind Menu => Settings => Information synchronization => Google => Background information. This will minimize background information usage
Note! In case you are using Gmail, Calendar & Contacts on your android phone you need to have this enabled or it will disable automatic sync with Google online servers.
In case you still need to make use of your Wi-Fi connection I highly recommend installing the free Y5 Battery Saver application. It automatically turns off the Wi-Fi when when out of range & allows it again when you are close to known access points to save battery life . not that this app itself will use some resources & can slightly reduce battery life but you ought to still be on the winning side in case you are away from your known Wi-Fi networks most of the day.
5) Always keep Bluetooth off when not in use
6) Avoid usage of push or frequent email polling and configure it to sync every 15 or more minutes
7) Turn off automatic Weather updates
Set a reasonable update frequency for Twitter, Flicker & Facebook
9) Receive a fast mobile network connection
With these settings I’m easily getting through a full day of Androiding with a little disclaimer regarding my speaking habits that some days drain the battery much faster.

5 iPhone Applications for Small Water-Lovers
70% of the planet is covered with water and it is important to let our children understand about its role in the life of every person. From early childhood people accept water as fun. Children adore water activities and they like to take a bath. They should not be afraid of water. And it is up to you if you are able to develop (or to keep, to be more particular) this water-loving attitude.
uSwim
First of all, the child should always feel safe in water. Mobile application uSwim was created specifically for this purpose. In the past, parents who could not afford swimming lessons would have to guess how to teach their children. Now, the uSwim application shows parents how to teach children of all ages to swim. It will direct parents the right way providing them with step-by-step instructions and videos showing the exercises that will help kids to be confident in water.
When person can’t swim he doesn’t feel secure. Why should your child live in fear? Teach your kid to swim to be prepared for any life circumstances. After all this is the task of all parents – they must teach their children to adapt.
Aqua Forest
After you provided your child with proper physical training, it is time to have fun and develop the braining activity. Aqua Forest iPhone application will be great for this goal. The game looks very nice and it is very captivating. As you catch water drops falling from the trees, you shouldn’t spill them, but guide through a maze. These manipulations can amuse your kids and supply them with knowledge about the physical laws. Let your children play with different substances, drawing various shapes on the touch panel.
But water is not only fun, this is essential part of the personal hygiene. The best way to teach our kids to care about it is to make them care about their virtual pets. Try games where children act as pet lovers, caring about hygiene.
The kids learn that it is necessary to wash and, secondly, they learn to care about pets. What pet does your child prefer? Choose the application to your kid’s taste!
iWash my Dogs
You can choose between various breeds to choose the pet you will wash. All dogs are very dirty so it may take some time for your kid to soap, rinse and dry them.
iWash my Cats
Cats adore being clean and they care about it on their own. But not in the case when they are too dirty! They will not cope with so much dirt without assistance of your child.
iWash my Horses
Horses are more exposed to dirt as they are not kept indoors like cats and dogs, therefore here the help of your kids is required most of all.
All these games are perfect for fun and relaxation, but do not neglect the learning effect as well. If you don’t want to observe how your baby, loving to splash in water grows into messy adult, then these apps will help to teach your child a water-loving attitude every person should have.

Two Step Security for your Gmail Account
If you security is your highest concern, and have a lot of important documents and e-mails on gmail which you would not like to fall into someone else’s hands, or have had spam sent through your gmail account, the new security feature by the gmail team, almost makes it impossible for anyone to hack into your account. It is a two step process to sign in. There will be a new link on your account settings page which looks like this:
Gmail advises to take that step nice and slow, and set it up properly in case you lose you primary phone. Once enabled, it will give an additional page after signing into Google, which asks for the verification code. Gmail can call you with the code or text it to you, or you may generate the code in an app on Android, iOS or Blackberry device.
This way you are pretty sure its only you who is logging in, because though someone else may have your password, your Phone remains with you. Further, if you use Remember Verification for thirty days, you will only have to enter the verification once every month.
